It is very important to measure from your floor to ceiling. This dimension will help dictate the height of your upper cabinets.
When measuring for doors or windows in your space, be sure to measure from the inside corner of a wall to the outside window casing and not just the window (glass) itself. Your window or door size needs to include the casing as well to get the correct dimension.
You may have noticed that when you measured your space that you are stuck with an odd measurement that no cabinet can fit this space. Maybe an inch, or 2 and half inches? This is taken care of with Fillers. Most Fillers come in common widths of 3" or 6" with the height of the filler strip varying. The Filler is able to be cut down to place in between a wall and cabinet to make up that odd measurement. Not only that, but it is also always a good idea to put a filler between the cabinet and a wall to ensure that doors and drawers open with ample room. Most walls are not perfectly plum, so imagine a cabinet placed directly on the wall and when you go to open the drawer, the drawer head scrapes against the wall. Ouch! Always use Fillers.
